Under the Direction of the nurse manager and guided by the policies and procedures of Ambulatory Services, the clinical nurse utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; assists with surgical and cosmetic procedures as determined by patient need and may include but not limited to Mohs Micrographic excisions and repairs; assisting with BCC and SCC excisions and repairs, biopsies, and other excisions; supports Botox and Restylane treatments; performs laser and PDT treatments; and triages patient phone calls and messages. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team including medical assistants and licensed vocational nurses. The clinical nurse is expected to be proficient in the electronic medical record (EMR) system of the Medical Center (EPIC/APeX). The clinical nurse is also required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center. Other duties as assigned.

In collaboration with the physician and nursing staff, the clinical nurse has the clinical responsibility for maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff, and for daily operations. the clinical nurse is a team player who works closely with others and who is flexible in dealing with changing priorities.  The clinical nurse is a self-reliant individual who synthesizes the clinical nurse knowledge of practice operations to problem-solve, prioritize, and facilitate complex transactions during The clinical nurse's daily activities. the clinical nurse is responsible for administering medications, assisting with a variety of procedures, practicing basic assessment of patient medical and psycho-social needs, participating in patient education, and assisting medical providers in a variety of ways. All components of nursing care will be individualized to meet the patient’s physiological and psychosocial developmental level and needs.

The clinical nurse has excellent oral and written communication skills; and can work well with minimal supervision in a complex, fast-paced pace, and challenging environment. The clinical nurse is sensitive to the needs of patients, staff, and providers at all times. This position makes a difference for patients in an outpatient care unit by providing excellent nursing care and customer service, facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical, hospital staff, and departments to maximize unit efficiency. The clinical nurse consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor and as well as demonstrates UCSF’s PRIDE values and the AIDET fundamentals of communication in all patient care and stakeholder interactions.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

Must have license issued by the State of California Board of Registered Nurse (RN) Examiners; and possess the skills, knowledges, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  •  2-3 years related experience in Ambulatory Dermatology Clinic
  •  Minimum of 1 year experience of Mohs Surgery
  • Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Experience in patient local numbing

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Laser Hair Removal Treatment


License/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
