Job Summary:
Reporting to the Vancouver Campus Executive, the Deputy Vancouver Campus Executive acts as the chief operating and financial officer for the Campus, assisting the Campus Executive in developing and accomplishing the campus’ mission, strategic goals and objectives and provides leadership and direction for the overall operational management, administration, and supervision of the campus.
Primary responsibility is focused on the non-academic and administrative support areas of Campus operations. The Deputy Campus Executive assists the Campus Executive in responding to the program, service, and infrastructure needs of the Vancouver Campus to ensure a student-centered environment and providing a high-quality experience to students and other members of the Campus community. The Deputy Campus Executive assumes the responsibilities of the Campus Executive in case of his or her absence.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
1. Assists the Campus Executive in creating an environment that supports the campus and University goals and objectives and that fosters a sense of community among students, faculty,
administrators, staff, and guests. Assures a quick response to the program, service and infrastructure needs of the Campus.
2. Assists the Campus Executive in enforcing the campus and University administrative policies and standards.
3. Oversees administrative services including facilities management, space planning, and campus safety and security; and the development of policy for the Vancouver Campus as appropriate.
4. Prepares the campus operating budget and monitors budgetary compliance. Ensures appropriate systems and procedures are developed and implemented to provide for budgetary control.
5. Assists the Campus Executive in overseeing human resource management for the Vancouver Campus.
6. In collaboration with the Campus Executive, directors and administrators, oversees implementation of the mission, vision and strategy for the Vancouver Campus.
7. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies, including the preparation of required reporting obligations.
8. Supervises the Finance Office on the Vancouver campus. Supervises the Controller and Accounting Office Clerk. In conjunction with the Campus Executive, supervises the Institutional Research Analyst, and the Office Manager and Senior Assistant to the Campus Executive.
9. Negotiates with vendors for contracted services: facilities, maintenance, security, custodial, vending services, printing and bookstore.
10. Where appropriate, the Deputy Campus Executive will coordinate student academic support services including Accommodations for Students with Disabilities, the Academic Writing Centre and peer tutoring services.
11. Acts as the Data Privacy Officer for the Vancouver Campus.
12. Serves on University level committees and task forces as required.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree required or equivalent in a field related to higher education administration. Doctorate is a plus.
2. Administrative experience in higher education including staff management and fiscal accountability. Extensive knowledge of university operations required.
3. Experience in the development and oversight of a substantial budget.
4. Ability to provide leadership to diverse constituencies, and develop and maintain effective and constructive collaborative relationships with campus administration and staff at all levels.
5. Outstanding oral and written communications skills and interpersonal skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to provide organizational leadership and a commitment to working in an inclusive, diverse and fully participative organizational culture.
7. Outstanding organizational skills.
8. Computer proficiency for data management, spreadsheet, and word processing applications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required. Familiarity with Ellucian Colleague a plus.
9. Valid passport required for international travel.
10. Canadian residency or work permit required.
11. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Insurance Number.
