The Department of Dance at Bridgewater State University is committed to cultivating excellence, innovation and leadership in dance as education, as a performing art form, cultural practice, scientific inquiry, and interdisciplinary application. The dance program is dedicated to fostering scholarly artists and educators in dance, and developing arts-literate citizens. Students gain comprehensive knowledge of dance forms and practices, critical thinking skills, and practical experience in a variety of dance applications through diverse dance techniques and pedagogies, dance science, somatics, cultural dance forms, historical inquiry, dance composition, and dance production and performance,
The department offers a BA in Dance, an honors program, an interdisciplinary minor and an education program for teacher certification in dance. The dance program offers a wide variety of dance technique training and a solid theoretical foundation for performance and choreography. In addition, the program offers an emphasis on dance pedagogy in either the private or public sector.

Essential Duties
The Department of Dance is accepting applications for the full-time, benefitted, 1 year position of Instructor/Assistant Professor for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Applicants should be equity-minded individuals who demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of our students. Applicants should also possess a commitment to teaching excellence and to supporting an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Teach Ballet Dance Technique, including connections to history and culture, with a focus on conceptually-based, somatic practices
• Teach Modern Dance Technique, including connections to history and culture
• Teach Dance History (from Ancient Greece to contemporary American Choreographers)
• Teach one of the following core courses: World Dance, Dance Appreciation, or Creative Dance (As needed by the Department in-person and/or asynchronous on Web)
• Teach Dance Composition I and/or Dance Production Techniques
• Teach Ballet Pedagogy with a focus on conceptually-based, somatic practices.
• Provide artistic direction for a Spring and/or Fall concert if needed. Responsibilities include providing effective choreographic feedback to students and guest artists, attention to detail and choreography skills.
• Advise Dance Major and Minor students and students in dance courses. Hold weekly office hours.
• Participate in departmental meetings; committee, curriculum, and assessment work; departmental and College events; and in dance productions.
• Participate in departmental recruitment activities and events.
Required Qualifications
Master of Arts or MFA in Dance, or a PhD or EdD in Dance or a related field.
Experience teaching dance in higher education also required.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Dance preferred.
Knowledge of Blackboard, Argos, Google Docs and Outlook preferred.
