The Chemical Sciences department at BSU is a close-knit community of students, teachers, mentors and scholars. We pride ourselves on small class sizes and the individual attention that our students receive both in the classroom and the laboratory. Undergraduate research is an integral part of the program. Faculty members are actively engaged in collaborative research with students. Position Summary
The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in introductory chemistry and analytical / environmental / green and sustainable chemistry (lecture and laboratory).
The successful candidate may teach lecture and laboratory courses in our Analytical and/or Environmental courses as well as our Introductory Chemistry (CHEM 141/142, 131/132, 102) sequences.
Candidates must demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities.
Candidates with experience or interest in using engaged learning pedagogy and/or engaging students in research, are particularly encouraged to apply.
Required Qualifications
A Master’s degree in chemistry or a related area by September 1, 2024 is required at minimum, as are excellent oral and written communication skills.
Applicants should be strongly committed to excellence in teaching, social/environmental justice, mentoring, and to working in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion. They should also have a commitment to public higher education, an ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, a commitment to collaboration, and evidence of scholarship activity.
Preferred Qualifications
An earned or near-completed Ph.D. (ABD) in chemistry or a related area is strongly preferred.
Prior college level teaching experience is also preferred, with preference given to candidates with a background in analytical chemistry or closely related area.
Preferred candidates will have a background in one or more of the following interdisciplinary sub-fields: Sustainable Materials, Green and Sustainable Chemistry, or Environmental Chemistry.
