JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2024. Candidates are expected to provide innovative and equity-based teaching in general and introductory chemistry in addition to other upper and lower-division courses.  Candidates are also expected to develop and sustain an externally funded and independent research agenda in an area of materials chemistry.  Expertise in physical, inorganic, or organic materials chemistry that complements existing departmental research capabilities and has the potential for research collaboration and/or course development is highly desirable.  Salary is commensurate with experience.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

The new faculty member will teach and develop curricula for general and introductory chemistry courses, as well as lower and upper division courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.  They will develop and maintain an independent and externally funded research program involving undergraduate as well as MS students in our new MS Materials Science program, and participate in service-related activities at all levels of this institution. 

The new faculty member must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.  They will work effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.  In addition, they are encouraged to develop and participate in activities that support the University’s strategic plan.  This plan emphasizes: a) student success; b) faculty and staff success; c) stewarding resources; d) community engagement and partnerships; and, e) enhancing the campus identity. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field is required, and postdoctoral experience is preferred.  Research expertise and experience should be in an area of materials chemistry.  University-level teaching experience is preferred.

Associate Professor         (Range 4) - $6,190 – $13,172

Professor                        (Range 5) - $7,794 – $13,797
