      Position Description:

      The University of Northern Iowa's Department of Biology seeks internal applications for the position of Department Head. This position provides leadership and advocacy for the quality, status, and reputation of the department and its faculty, staff, and students; encourages excellence in teaching, research/scholarship, and service; promotes undergraduate and graduate programs; evaluates faculty and staff; recommends promotion and tenure of faculty; responds to the concerns, needs, and suggestions of faculty, staff, and students; serves as a liaison with internal and external constituencies (such as other academic departments, community partners, prospective students, donors, alumni); promotes intellectual and cultural pluralism; and performs other duties as assigned by the Dean.

      Education Requirements:

      Doctorate degree in an area represented in the Department of Biology required.

      Required Qualifications:

      Tenure and the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Biology required. Additional requirements include a record of effective teaching, research, and service; outstanding interpersonal, communication, leadership, and organizational abilities; understanding and support of the diverse and interrelated areas that comprise the department; commitment to creative problem solving, collaborative decision making, and equitable mediation; demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholder groups; ability to articulate vision for the department's direction; and academic leadership experience with both departmental infrastructure and programs impacting cross-campus and community constituencies.
