Job Summary

Supervise Convenienceconvenience store operations in the absence of the store supervisor, including inventory, sales, and maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

Supervise Convenience Store operations in the absence of the Store Supervisor, including opening and closing the store, distributing monies within the Store, and securing funds received during the day according to guidelines; total receipts at the end of the day and deposit in safe according to guidelines; activate alarm system and ensure the security of store; supervise work of Coordinators, Sales Clerks, and student employees; notify supervisor of problems that cannot be resolved.

Compile, record, and report information as required for accurate and up-to-date departmental records; process incoming and outgoing forms and documents according to operating procedures.

Ensure that Convenience Store is adequately stocked with merchandise; order stock merchandise from Duke University Store's stockroom, Duke Central Warehouse and local vendors in sufficient quantity to meet customer demand; assist Supervisor in ordering new and sale merchandise based on market trends, research, customer preferences and favorable vendor terms.

Receive deliveries according to procedures; verify quantities and items received against packing slips, invoices and purchase orders; ensure merchandise received is in good condition.

Price merchandise with correct price and department code; organize merchandise on sales floor in a systematic, attractive and easily accessible manner; rotate perishable items as needed.

Perform inventories as scheduled; take counts of sale, reduced, damaged and discounted merchandise; note markdown of merchandise and dispose of merchandise according to procedures. Assist customers in the selection of products and recommend additional purchases; answer customer calls and inquiries and resolve customer complaints; monitor for shoplifting and take appropriate actions as needed in accordance with store policy. Operate point-of-sale cash register as needed, processing cash and non-cash transactions.

Make work assignments in accordance with predetermined schedules; review the work of employees in lower classifications; assist in training new personnel.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Experience: Work generally requires two years of retail store experience including cash register operating experience. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles to maintain proper inventory counts and to handle sales transactions, generally acquired through a high school education.

Experience

Work generally requires one year of retail experience to acquire OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE skills necessary to coordinate operations of a specialty area within University Stores and to gain the ability to interact effectively with vendors.
