The University of Pittsburgh Department of Physician Assistant Studies invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. The Department is seeking a dynamic individual with outstanding communication and collaborative abilities to lead the department in its ongoing pursuit of excellence in academics, research, equity and inclusion, and service through partnerships regionally, nationally, and internationally. The Chair will have a commitment to diversity and interdisciplinary/inter-professional education while representing the best interests of the Department and physician associates/physician assistants in the academy, the profession, and the University.

 

The Chair will demonstrate a history of or evidence of potential for accomplished academic leadership. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in research, teaching (didactic or clinical), and/or administration. The Chair of Physician Assistant Studies reports to the Dean of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), and the Chair will oversee the academic, research, service, and scholarly activities of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies.

 

Rank, title, and salary range:

This is a 12-month, tenure or tenure-stream or appointment stream, assistant/associate/professor, full-time position. Salary is commensurate with experience.

 

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must have a record that would demonstrate eligibility for an appointment at the rank of assistant/associate/professor at the University of Pittsburgh. Candidate must have or be enrolled in a program that awards an earned Doctor of Education degree or a Doctor of Philosophy degree in a health sciences field. While no candidate will embody every quality, the successful candidate will demonstrate many of the following professional and personal qualifications:

·         Demonstrated record of collaborative engagement and successful partnerships

·         Ability to flexibly guide organizational growth

·         Experience building research and scholarship

·         A commitment to excellence in academic and clinical education

·         Knowledge of pedagogy and curriculum development

·         Experience in administration and fiscal management of an organizational unit

·         Ability to recruit and mentor faculty and staff to achieve personal, departmental, School, and University goals

·         Demonstrated knowledge of accreditation and credentialing processes

·         Experience with innovative program development (i.e., in teaching, research)

 

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies

The Department of Physician Assistant Studies is one of nine Departments in SHRS. The Department has 23 faculty including 1 Professors (appointment stream), 3 Associate Professors (all appointment stream), and 19 Assistant Professors (all appointment stream) who are engaged in local, state, national, and international collaborations and have a strong reputation for the areas of expertise to which they contribute through research, teaching, and professional service. Approximately 250 students are enrolled across the department, which offers the following degree programs: the entry-level Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Residential Program, the entry-level Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Hybrid Program, and the Doctor of PA Studies post-professional degree program. research doctorate (Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science).
