Department Chair of Media and Communication

The Department of Media & Communication in the School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi invites candidates for the position of inaugural department chair to begin Fall 2024. Candidates must have demonstrated leadership experience, a commitment to teamwork, and a creative vision.  Candidates with the credentials for appointment as a full professor are preferred.  

We particularly seek candidates interested in a) developing the department’s strategic plan in consultation with departmental faculty; b) promoting and expanding curriculum surrounding new and emerging topics in media and communication; c) supporting community-engaged initiatives, and d) seeking external funding to support innovative new projects.

Responsibilities of the department chair include curriculum building, promoting faculty excellence in teaching research and service, and course scheduling.

The School of Journalism and New Media recognizes both creative and research paths to tenure. The School offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Journalism and Integrated Marketing Communications. Faculty in the Media & Communication department currently serve both the Journalism and Integrated Marketing Communications degree programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels. However, the department is planning its own new topical, high-flex undergraduate degree program.
