Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversees the delivery of care at HHS Dental Clinics, including the rotation of students and residents.
  • Provides direct patient care and serves as an adjunct faculty at HHS Dental Clinics. 
  • Supervises and evaluates Providers in conjunction with the UTHealth Houston Associate Dean for Patient Care, Chief Clinical Officer, and Director of Operations of DSRDP-UT Dentists. 
  • Leads onboarding of new Providers, including verification of EHR proficiency and coordination of recommended training initiatives.
  • Assists in recruitment efforts by reviewing candidates and participating in interviews.
  • Oversees clinical staff training, professional development, collaboration, assignments, and implementation and compliance of all HHS and UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry clinical policies and procedures.
  • Ensures communication, coordination, and calibration between and among staff dentists and dental hygienists across the HHS Dental Clinics. 
  • Schedules and coordinates all regular meetings of Providers and Harris Health support staff in collaboration with the HHS Manager of Dental Services, in addition to the Joint Operating Committee meetings.
  • Represents UTHealth Houston - UT Dentists on standing HHS committees as requested.
  • Supports the quality assurance, quality and performance improvement, and clinical performance programs of both HHS and UTHealth Houston and assists with risk management efforts by addressing specific patient and/or provider incident reports or other concerns as necessary. 
  • Other duties that may be assigned by HHS and mutually agreed to by the parties.  

  • Qualifications:

     

    • State-licensed dentist with significant experience in community-based dental clinic leadership and operations management.
    • Proficient with EHR modules and reporting.
    • Familiarity with quality improvement initiatives and development of clinical best practice guidelines and standard operating procedures
    • Demonstrates effectiveness in leadership, resolution strategies, and peer reviews, and builds consensus in motivating performance.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and high degree of emotional intelligence.
    • Proficiency and experience preparing meeting agendas, presentations, reports, and performing analysis of clinical data reports supporting defined quality and performance metrics using Microsoft 365 software.

    Licensure and Credentials:

    • Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Texas
    • Current CPR (BLS) certification
    • Valid DEA registration

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based, person-centered dental care with a focus on disease prevention, quality, and value for the patient.
    • Appreciation of the impact of the social determinants of health, the capacity to function successfully as part of a large team

    Residency Requirement: 

    Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
