Job Description
The Ohio State University College of Dentistry Outpatient Care Upper Arlington Dental Clinic seeks a full time dental assistant to support our on-site providers and their patients during dental procedures.
The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional customer service skills, a positive attitude and the ability to be flexible with administration as the clinic continues to grow. The dental assistant will be responsible for advanced chairside assisting; maintaining equipment and instruments; dispensing dental materials; preparing trays; taking, pouring and separating impressions; maintaining supplies and communicating inventory with management on a weekly basis; cleaning instruments, chairs, rooms, lab and sterilization areas; coordinating outside lab services; coordinating and follow up on outside referrals; maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients, providers and other staff; taking radiographs. Additionally, this position provides clerical and reception support by greeting patients, answering phones, scheduling patients, and general customer service.
Work Schedule: M 8a-4p, T 7a-5p, W 7a-5p, R 7a-5p, F 7a-1p. Hours subject to vary based on provider availability. Some evenings and weekends may be necessary.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
A dental assistant needs to be able to: use of both hands, dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental hand pieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures. The ability to sit and stand for duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: blood borne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; and latex.
Minimum Education Required

Required Qualifications
3 months experience (3 courses) in dental office practices and procedures; 3 months experience (3 courses) in dental operatory practices and procedures; 3 months experience (3 courses) in four-handed assisting techniques; 3 months experience (3 courses) in inventory record-keeping; 3 months experience (300 hrs. training) in care of dental equipment; 1 month experience (100 hrs. training) in using a computer. (Including license, if any.)
MUST PASS HEALTH STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS PRESCRIBED BY LAW PRIOR TO
APPOINTMENT (e.g., hepatitis, vaccination series, and TB test). Must be registered with the Ohio Dental Board as a Dental Assistant Radiographer.
Desired: 2 years dental assisting experience, knowledge of electronic health records and data entry, HIPAA and OSHA requirements, knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, excellent interpersonal skills.
