The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dental Assistant (DA) to join its Orthodontic Division. The Orthodontics Division provides excellent, comprehensive orthodontic treatment for all ages. The successful candidate will be responsible for direct chairside orthodontic assisting for all residents and faculty in the orthodontic clinic in the College of Dentistry; dispenses, receives, processes/sterilizes and purchases instruments, equipment and supplies used in the delivery of orthodontic treatment; provides oral hygiene instructions, ensures efficient operation during faculty and clinical sessions; fabricates vacuum formed retainers, pours and trims models; organizes records system; and reviews financing options with new patients.
Monday – Friday, hours vary.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
A dental assistant needs to be able to: use of both hands, dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental hand pieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate the rheostat for hand pieces or other dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures. The ability to sit and stand for duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments; and latex.

Three months of experience (three courses) in dental office practices and procedures; three months of experience (three courses) in dental operatory practices and procedures; three months of experience (three courses) in four-handed assisting techniques; three months of experience (three courses) in inventory record-keeping; three months of experience (300 hours training) in care of dental equipment; one month of experience (100 hours of training) in using a computer.
Current CPR/BLS certification and radiographer license required at all times throughout employment.
Dental assistant experience; EFDA and Orthodontic experience, preferably in a dental setting desired; experience and knowledge of a wide variety of dental instruments; experience in an educational setting, computer literacy including Microsoft Office and internet/email.
