Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Craniofacial and Surgical Care provides a diverse approach to treatment for patients with craniofacial or oral and maxillofacial conditions, including those with multiple or complex oral health problems. The Henson Geriatric and Special Care Clinic provides specialized treatment for patients with closed head injury, epilepsy, rheumatoid arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, and more. The Henson Geriatric and Special Care Clinic delivers general dental services in the care of these patients and provides education for oral health personnel in the management and treatment of elderly and/or medically, physically or developmentally compromised patients.
Position Summary
This position is eligible for a SIGN ON BONUS of $2,000 to be paid in two installments:
$1,000 within 90 days of your hire date and
$1,000 6 months after hire date.

The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Craniofacial and Surgical Care provides a diverse approach to treatment for patients with craniofacial or oral and maxillofacial conditions, including those with multiple or complex oral health problems. The Special Care & Geriatric clinic provides specialized treatment for medically, physically or developmentally delayed individuals and the elderly.
The Dental Assistant Supervisor’s primary purpose is to maintain continuity of administrative and clinical coverage and to ensure all dental assistant duties are completed effectively and in a timely manner while serving chairside during clinical operations. This entails creation and review of weekly schedules of assignment for dental assistants across all clinics and clinical support areas and ensuring templates are appropriately updated in Epic. Ability to lead the dental assistants and ensure that daily adjustment of clinical assignments meets goals of the unit to provide excellent patient care. Collaboratively sets goals with Dental Assistants and facilitates work-performance reviews. Approves absences and leave requests and works with all assistants and other to ensure adequate clinical staffing, including TIMS approval. Responsible for referral work queue oversight.
Facilitates setting group cultural and inclusivity goals and ensure optimal communication across all dental assistants. Assists the Business Officer in identifying training and development opportunities for Dental Assistants. Reconciles lab and clinic-based charges in a timely manner. Responsible for ordering clinical supplies as needed through outside vendors. The DA Supervisor will also provide clinical assisting services as needed and serves as Lead Dental Assistant daily.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and completion of an accredited dental assisting program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Dental Assistant II certification with minimum 5 years of dental assisting experience preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
This position must be able to stand for extended periods of time without sitting. Have the ability to transfer patients from wheelchair to exam chair. Ability to rapidly triage emergencies and follow protocols during clinical operations.
