ROLE of the POSITION
Supports the day-to-day operation of the School of Dental Medicine Orthodontic (Ortho) Program by serving as the Ortho Dental Treatment Coordinator. Monitors multiple Orthodontic appointment schedules and in collaboration with the Ortho Program Director establishes work schedules for 16 Ortho residents. Supervises the Ortho scheduling support staff and ensures appointments for over 10,000 patients seen yearly by the program are confirmed. Collects co-payments and monthly payments in cash, checks, or credit card from patients.
Prepares daily bank deposits and ensures payments balance with daily patient management financial reports. Reviews patient accounts, processes referrals and submits pre-authorizations to insurance providers for approval. Provides patients information about proposed dental treatment, insurance coverage and payment options. Researches and resolves patient billing issues specific to the Ortho Program. Responsible for routine contact with insurance companies and third party payers on behalf of the Ortho Program.
Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of dental insurance claims submitted by the program to the Clinical Business Services department for processing. Investigates Ortho insurance claims denials and makes necessary corrections for payment. During staffing shortages demonstrate the ability to serve as the lead dental assistant in Ortho dental procedures. Acts as a liaison for the Ortho Program Director when communicating with other healthcare agencies, providers and the general public. Assist Ortho residents in reviewing patients records for completion of dental treatment and resolution of financial obligations. Assist the Ortho program in ensuring all activities conform to established goals and policies of the dental school. Works Monday thru Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clinical experience working in a dental practice performing general or specialized treatment of patients in both routine and emergency procedures in areas of diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontic, pedodontic, orthodontic, oral surgery, and/or prosthodontic dental care; OR successful completion of the Dental Assisting National Board, Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) examination; OR one year of experience as a Dental Assistant 2 in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bilingual; fluent in Spanish and English; prior experience working in a healthcare environment.
Grade 27 Step 1, salary $35,725.68. "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
