ROLE of the POSITION
Positions provide front desk administration for the General Practice Residency. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position under the guidance of the Dental Assistant IV supervisor greets incoming patients in person or over the telephone and schedules dental appointments and confirms dental appointments for residents and faculty members. This position prepares new patient charts and reviews old patient charts to ensure the documentation is completed and in the proper order. This position collects co-payments and payments in cash, check, or credit card from patients. This position prepares bank deposits by ensuring the cash, checks, and credit card statements balances with the patient management software daily financial report. This position responds to inquiries from dental students, residents, patients, staff and faculty via telephone, mail or in person.
This position reviews patient accounts, processes referrals from and to the School of Dental Medicine, Enterprise Dental Clinic and surgery centers. This position discusses insurance coverage with patients to ensure maximum use of insurance. This position submits pre-authorizations to insurance providers for approval and submits insurance claims for completed dental treatment. This position assists dental residents in reviewing patient's dental records for completion of dental treatment and resolutions of financial obligations. Some positions may require bilingual, Spanish, Filipino, and English skills. Knowledge of Eaglesoft dental programs a plus.
Graduation from high school or equivalent education, successful completion of a recognized one-year dental assistant training program, and one year of experience working with the public collecting and recording information and/or explaining and clarifying basic information; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of clinical experience in a dental practice using four-handed techniques in a wide range of procedures, collecting and recording patient's medical information, exposing, processing, mounting and labeling radiographs, and applying dental sterile techniques and infectious control and exposure procedures; OR one year of experience as a Dental Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Grade 25, Step 1, salary $33,971.76. "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
