ROLE of the POSITION
Assist Postgraduate Pediatric Dental Students and Pediatric Dental Faculty in the treatment of Pediatric dental patients. Individuals applying for this position must have experience assisting dentist in the treatment of Pediatric dental patients; performing treatment in all areas of dentistry to include Restorative, Endodontics, Orthodontics and Oral Surgery. Candidates applying for this position must possess basic knowledge of front office duties and appropriate communication skills when speaking to children, knowledge of proper diagnostic and preventive dentistry protocols as they apply to children, the ability to perform four-handed dentistry assisting techniques and the ability to assist Postgraduate Pediatric Dental Students in learning these techniques. Individuals applying for this position must be proficient in taking dental x-rays on Pediatric dental patients and possess the intermediate dental knowledge necessary to become proficient in the use of nitrous oxide/oxygen and conscious sedation procedures performed on Pediatric dental patients. This position ensures all dental treatment rooms are in compliance with State, Federal and OSHA guidelines as they pertain to infection control.

QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or equivalent education, successful completion of a recognized one-year dental assistant training program, and one year of experience working with the public collecting and recording information and/or explaining and clarifying basic information; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of clinical experience in a dental practice using four-handed techniques in a wide range of procedures, collecting and recording patient's medical information, exposing, processing, mounting and labeling radiographs, and applying dental sterile techniques and infectious control and exposure procedures; OR one year of experience as a Dental Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
All Dental Assistant positions at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) are required to pass: 1) a background investigation; and 2) a sanction check performed through the National Healthcare Data Bank (NHDB).

SALARY
Grade 25 Step 1, salary $33,971.76 . "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
