SUMMARY:

The Deans Communications Specialist is a creative, exceptional writer who will craft clear and compelling communications for the for senior leadership of the Division of Biology and Medicine, including but not limited to the Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences, Senior Associate Deans, and the Chief Wellness Officer. The incumbent will work closely with the Division’s senior leaders to create content that reflects the voice, messages, and communications strategy of each dean and supports the overall goals of providing clear, transparent communications for all audiences. These audiences include students, faculty, alumni, parents, staff and the community at large, to name but a few. The incumbent will successfully adjust communications based on audience and will ensure all communications are accurate, informative, and reflective of the tone and style of the Division and Biology and Medicine.

 

This position works closely with the Dean’s Chief of Staff and reports to the Assistant Dean of Biomedical Communications. Both will provide the day-to-day direction and support for the Communications Specialist. The incumbent will also work closely with Divisional senior leaders to ensure alignment with their personal communications styles and goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, professional writing, public affairs or a related field, or combination of education and experience.

  • 3-5 years of experience in communications or a related field.

  • Background working in the context of a research university strongly preferred.

Job Competencies

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Sound judgment, discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters.

  • Ability to sustain a high level of productivity and work independently while being part of a collaborative team

  • Strong background in PowerPoint and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop

  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work with a diverse population of faculty, staff and students in an inclusive environment.

  • Flexibility in adjusting to changing demands.

  • Proficiency with communications applications and tools, including Google Drive, MS Office, Google, bulk email and CMS applications.

  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline driven environment required.

  • Must be a team player with a strong service-oriented attitude.

  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.
