School/College/Division Description | The College of the Arts and Architecture is committed to offering outstanding education for visual and performing artists, architects, and urban planners among diverse communities in Milwaukee, the state of Wisconsin, and beyond through education, research, and community engagement. As part of the university’s 2030 Action Plan, UWM has recently undergone a strategic realignment of schools and colleges. As a result, in 2023 the School of Architecture and Urban Planning and the Peck School of the Arts were combined to form what is now the College of the Arts and Architecture. The College of the Arts and Architecture enrolls nearly 2,400 students across more than 82 degree, certificate, and minor programs. The college has 63 tenured or tenure-track faculty, 129 academic staff, 16 university staff, and a budget of over $21 million. Faculty expertise spans a wide array of disciplines,including Architecture; Art and Design; Dance; Film, Video, Animation, and New Genres; Music; Theatre; and Urban Planning. Additionally, the School of Architecture and Urban Planning is the only accredited architecture program in the state of Wisconsin. As the only public research and access-mission institution in Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee is transforming the state and region by advancing equity through education and addressing societal issues through research, strategic re-invention and partnerships. UWM serves 24,000 students on three campuses and has the largest population of diverse students of any four-year campus in the state. Job Summary | The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM) seeks a visionary, entrepreneurial and collaborative academic leader to serve as the dean of the College of Arts and Architecture. The next dean will articulate a vision and strategy for distinguishing the College of the Arts and Architecture as a leading school of architecture, urban planning, and the arts, charting a path for the college’s future. The dean will inspire excellence in teaching, research, practice, and service. In addition,the dean will foster community within the newly formed college which consists of two existing schools with rich histories and exceptional programs. The dean of the College of the Arts and Architecture will report directly to Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Andrew Daire and serve as chief executive and academic officer for the college. As such, the inaugural dean will provide leadership, vision, and strategic planning to advance thecollege’s mission; oversee the college’s academic and administrative operations, including personnel, budget, academic programs, physical facilities, research, professional practice, and educational programs; and serve as the primary internal and external spokesperson for the college, with emphasis on the vital relationship between the college and the Milwaukee community. |
