The University of Chicago – one of the world's preeminent institutions of discovery, service, and learning – seeks a visionary, collaborative, and strategic leader deeply committed to interdisciplinary research and education to serve as Dean of the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME). This is a rare and exciting opportunity for the new Dean to lead and oversee a period of tremendous growth, with enthusiastic support of the University, securing PME's global preeminence.

The Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering embodies UChicago's commitment to breaking new ground and leading in the creation of new fields of study. PME is UChicago's first and only engineering program. Not only has it brought the elements of engineering and applied sciences to UChicago, it has also stimulated new avenues in the basic sciences, enriching UChicago's interdisciplinary culture and capabilities and its reputation. PME transcends traditional scientific boundaries, focusing on societal problems primed for new solutions, including the search for sustainable energy sources, immunotherapy-based approaches to cancer, "unhackable" communications networks, and advanced materials for energy storage. The program was established as the Institute for Molecular Engineering in 2011 by the University of Chicago in partnership withArgonne National Laboratory. In 2019, in recognition of its success, impact, and expansion, and with the support of the Pritzker Foundation, the institute was elevated to the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, the first school in the nation dedicated to this emerging field. Following more than a decade of leadership by the founding Director and Dean, the University now seeks a new Dean to lead PME through its next phase of growth and excellence.

The new Dean will be expected to articulate a vision for the future of PME as a preeminent center of excellence for the emerging field of molecular engineering. The future preeminence of PME will depend on the recruitment, development, and retention of faculty of excellence, a primary charge for the new Dean. PME expects to double the size of its faculty over the next decade, including growing existing themes as well as launching new endeavors. The Dean will lead and manage this growth making certain the appropriate infrastructure and support is in place to ensure the continued success of PME's faculty, students, and staff. Working collaboratively with faculty, leaders across the University, and external partners, the Dean will propel discovery and innovation, strengthening the discovery ecosystem within PME and across the University, and build even stronger interdisciplinary research and education programs. Growing philanthropic support of PME through transformational gift opportunities will be a priority for the Dean. Underpinning this work and at the core of the new Dean's leadership will be a deep commitment to inclusive excellence.

UChicago seeks in its new Dean a leader with the intellectual vision, collegial and collaborative leadership style, strategic and operational leadership, and the energy, enthusiasm, and integrity to inspire and lead PME to a new level of preeminence. Candidates should have a record of scientific leadership, the ability to build and cultivate consensus, and accomplishment in fostering and supporting a climate of inclusive excellence. Candidates must have an earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree and a record of scholarship and teaching requisite for an appointment as a tenured full professor at UChicago.
