Job Description:

POSITION TITLE: Dean of New Bedford Campus

DEPARTMENT: Office of the President

REPORTS TO:  Chief of Staff and Strategic Development

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Responsible for supervision of assigned unit and non-unit professional staff.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Bristol Community College is in search of a dynamic and innovative academic leader with an entrepreneurial spirit to oversee the continued evolution of Bristol New Bedford, the college's urban campus in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The Campus Dean is responsible for ensuring the overall success of the campus through effective administration and leadership, positive and successful student outcomes, and the delivery of student-centered services and support. The Dean's mission extends beyond the physical campus walls, involving the cultivation of strategic partnerships that will contribute to the overall growth, influence, and success of the Campus and the institution. This leadership role is instrumental in shaping the future of the Campus, the College, and the region, and is instrumental in advancing the college's strategic plan

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership/Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the campus to promote positive learning environments and accessibility, including facilities management, ADA Compliance, personnel, and course offerings.
  • Proactively develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses, area public, private, and charter k-12 schools, fellow higher education institutions, non-profits social service, and governmental agencies to support economic development initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to research, develop and implement relevant and attractive, new programs for the campus that align with the needs of the local community.
  • Provide leadership and management to campus personnel to include hiring and selection, subject matter training, support, coaching, performance evaluation, development, workforce planning, and identifying opportunities for growth and improvement, all while fostering a positive workplace culture.
  • Lead the development and implementation of campus strategic plans for intentional and engaging campus programming, focused recruitment and enrollment efforts, and campus facility improvement, repurposing, and expansion opportunities.
  • Identify, maintain, and increase strategic partnerships and initiatives that promote and include experiential education and field placement opportunities.
  • Identify, maintain, and promote programs that are unique to the New Bedford Campus.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs, including Vice Presidents, Academic and Campus Deans, Program Chairs and Coordinators, and campus adjunct and full-time faculty to determine program offerings and course scheduling for the campus.

Administrative

  • Develop reports in collaboration with Strategic Analytics to inform, analyze, and align available programs, shift priorities to enhance student success, increase accessibility, and ensure equitable outcomes for our students.
  • Develop, maintain, and lead the New Bedford Campus Advisory Board.
  • Coordinate with college-wide departments to ensure that students have equitable access to appropriate learning resources and support services, including tutoring, academic advising, basic needs support, mental health outreach and counseling, career exploration and planning, transfer opportunities, and other student support services such as affinity groups, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Presidents Leadership Team, Academic Leadership Team, Office of Grant Development, and the Bristol Foundation to identify, vet, and secure potential grants or private funding opportunities to further the work the College is doing to increase resources that promote student success.
  • Promote, coordinate, and attend campus and community events, cultivating a strong campus presence within the local community.
  • Resolve student issues related to instructional staff, professional staff, and other students associated with the New Bedford Campus.
  • Collaborate with the college's Marketing and Communications team to develop and execute location-specific marketing strategies to attract and retain students and create a campus identity.
  • Utilize social media to promote, engage, and inform the community of current college initiatives, events, and programs.
  • Facilitate and manage external partners who may lease, rent, or attend events on campus as needed.
  • Advocate for the needs of the campus relative to college policies and processes to ensure that the campus perspective and operations are represented and that are appropriately allocated.
  • Provide faculty and staff with the resources needed for student learning and support services.
  • Collaborate with the College's Campus Police and serve as a member of the College's Preparedness Team to ensure the safety of the College Community and provide a consistent, identifiable safety presence on campus. Additionally, ensures that the campus follows safety protocols and is well-versed in emergency preparedness.
  • Develop and enhance relationships that increase student belonging and connections both with each other and with campus staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.  

  • Minimum of a Master's degree;* and,
  • Proven leadership experience in academic administration, with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in higher education, including experience managing the delivery of student services, academic services, and personnel;* or,
  • *An equivalent combination of education, experience, training.
  • Demonstrated experience building partnerships leading to the development and growth of programs, operations, and capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage local student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use data to make operational decisions, forecast campus needs, and understand trends and opportunities the campus needs to anticipate.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of marketing strategies.
  • Ability to understand and build relationships responsive to local economic development strategies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to embracing the needs of a diverse community, and adhering to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility principles.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, administration, and community.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends to promote the college and establish community relationships.
  • Reliable transportation to travel to and from meetings, trainings, or campus and community locations as required. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience as a Campus Dean or Campus Director for five to seven (5-7) years.
  • A master's or doctoral degree in a relevant field of study.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards and academic quality assurance processes.
  • Prior supervisory experience in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Prior experience working at a multi-campus community college.
  • Local community experience working with non-profits and other community-based organizations.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English

POSITION STATUS: This is a full-time, non-unit position with benefits, some nights and weekends required. 

SALARY: Hiring salary Grade 14, $114,660.43 - $126,563.66, commensurate with education and experience.
