Description of Duties:

The Dean in the College of Health Sciences duties include, but are not limited to, clarifying and promoting the vision, mission, and focus of the College; committing to building a world-class College; and advancing SUNY Polytechnic Institute as a key part of its leadership. Strong advocacy skills on campus and in the community, the adeptness to recruit and retain high-quality faculty in a demanding environment, financial and budgetary acumen, and a capacity to lead a comprehensive and diverse academic unit also are expected. This position has the authority to assist in determining, creating, and affecting policy for the Institution. Other reasonable duties as assigned.

  • Overseeing strategic planning for college and provide leadership to faculty and staff, encouraging a sense of academic community and the vision, commitment, and integrity necessary to define and accomplish the Institution's goals.
  • Taking a proactive role in acting as an external champion with key college stakeholders to advance the college mission, maintain accreditation, promote external funding and investment, and build scholarship/endowment support for the Institution's initiatives.
  • Proactive support and advancement of the vision of SUNY Poly - both externally and internally - and supporting the unified SUNY Poly leadership; advancing and promoting the Institution as a whole as well as an individual college.
  • Develop relationships with various stakeholders across the College and broader community to achieve excellence in the College's teaching, research, and service.
  • Effectively recruit and evaluate faculty, staff and administrators as well as oversee professional development of employees.
  • Manage State, Federal, and private resources provided to the college strategically, fairly and effectively, and take initiative to seek out and generate external resources.
  • Provide leadership, oversight and direction to direct reports to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the Institution's goals and strategies.  Design and implement operating strategies, plans and procedures to assure smooth functioning of SUNY Poly. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication. Complete performance management feedback and goals per requirements.  Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Salary: $135,000 - $150,000

The primary location for this position is in Utica, with possible travel to other operating locations.

Reporting Relationships:

Chair of the Nursing Department and Health Sciences Department. Coordinators for the following Programs: Community & Behavioral Health, Health Information Management, Family Nurse Practitioner, Health Informatics, Nursing Education, Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and Nursing Education. There are about 18 Faculty and 4 support staff in assigned colleges that report to the Dean of Health Sciences.


Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Doctoral Degree from a College or University accredited by the U.S. Dept. of Education or other internationally recognized accrediting organization with responsible experience in academic administration at the departmental or similar level and successful experience in college or university teaching.
  • Must be eligible for appointment as a Full Professor with Clinical experience. Eligibility Includes and may not be limited to:
  • A distinguished record of scholarship in the applicant's area of expertise.  The distinguished record should include a national and international reputation as a researcher in the person's area of expertise.
  • A sustained 10 year record of teaching excellence
  • A sustained 10 year record of service to profession, college or community.
    • Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to effectively communicate, collaborate, and possess the ability to convey messages and information clearly, concisely, and that are in support of the vision, mission, and values of SUNY Poly. Must possess the flexibility and capacity to oversee, prioritize and execute a variety of strategic partnerships and initiatives and multiple projects concurrently. Must possess experience with multiple allied health fields, and vision for expanding offerings at SUNY Poly.
    • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of compliance in a regulatory environment covering research and educational program administration.
    • Must possess experience with graduate and doctoral programs, as well as distance/online learning.
    • Must be able to manage complex business matters and transactions in a dynamic environment.
    • Must demonstrate leadership qualities to effectively supervise a team of professional employees. Must be able to be present on campus a minimum of 5 days per week, as well as travel to off-site locations. Must be able to respond to requests or questions outside of normally scheduled work hours.
