Job Description:

The Dean in the College of Business Management is responsible for leading and promoting the vision, mission and goals of a comprehensive and diverse academic unit that includes the Business Administration, Finance, and Accounting disciplines.  The Dean will have a commitment to advancing a world-class College with a focus on maintaining AACSB accreditation, growing enrollment, attracting and retaining highly qualified, diverse faculty, and creating initiatives and programs to maximize the College's potential. The Dean is responsible for the fiscal health of the College and will lead and oversee the budget process for the College ensuring continued fiscal health while leveraging the fiscal landscape to further growth and development.  The Dean is also responsible for actively supporting interdisciplinary research and education, and the Dean is accountable for the impact of the College in the Mohawk Valley.  This position has the authority to assist in determining, creating, affecting policy for the SUNY Polytechnic Institute.  Other reasonable duties as assigned.

  • Overseeing strategic planning for the college and provide leadership to faculty and staff, encouraging a collaborative academic community with a vision, commitment, and integrity necessary to define and accomplish the Institution's goals. Proactively supporting and advancing the vision of SUNY Poly-both externally and internally-and supporting the unified SUNY Poly leadership; advancing and promoting the institution as a whole as well as an individual college.
  • Take a proactive role in acting as an external champion with key college stakeholders to advance the college mission, maintain accreditation, promote external funding and investment, and build scholarship/endowment support for the Institution's initiative. Responsible for the successful completion of the AACSB accreditation process for the College as required and also participates other accreditation processes such as the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Will ensure compliance.
  • Leads and has a significant role in fundraising by creating initiatives and programs that attract philanthropy to support the College.  Responsible for actively creating and participating in activities that support fundraising and will have established fundraising goals to be set in the performance program yearly.
  • Managing the College budget to ensure the fiscal health of the department.  Assess budget requests for viability, ensure budget goals are met, and forecast financial needs to plan accordingly. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with various stakeholders across the College and broader community to achieve excellence in the College's teaching, research and service.   Will be an active member of the Poly community in terms of service to the institution. 
  • Effectively recruit and evaluate faculty, staff and administrators as well as ensure the professional development of employees. Provide leadership, oversight and direction to direct reports which includes academic and staff personnel to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices advance a culture of respect and inspiration which includes but is not limited to providing and ensuring feedback, staff evaluations and goals, faculty reviews and continuing appointment processes are consistent with and contribute to strategic goals of the Institution. Will complete performance management feedback timely and provide real time performance management feedback leading direct reports to maximum potential and productivity.  
  • Manage state, Federal and private resources provided to the college strategically, fairly and effectively, and take initiative to seek out and generate external resources.  Support, cultivate, and create synergies and active research and educational programs. 
  • Work extensively with a College Advisory Board comprised of external experts of which will include 60% alumni[AR1] , with the goal of growing enrollment and programs to advance the College.  The advisory board will be a partnership and provide guidance, skills, feedback and expertise to the College.  Responsible for the College's impact and relationship with the Mohawk Valley.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Salary: $135,000 - $150,000

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must hold a doctoral degree from a College or University accredited by the US Department of Education or other internationally recognized accrediting organization with responsible experience in academic administration at the departmental or similar level and successful experience in college or university teaching at the associate or full professor level.
  • Must have a record of research and scholarship commensurate with appointment at the level of Full Professor[AR1] .
  • Candidates must possess excellent communication skills and be able to effectively communicate, and convey information concisely.  They must support the vision, mission and values of SUNY Poly.  In addition, candidates must possess the flexibility and capacity to oversee, prioritize and execute a variety of strategic partnerships and initiatives and multiple projects concurrently.
  • An understanding of compliance in a regulatory environment covering research and education program administration in necessary, as is the ability to manage complex business matters and transactions in a dynamic environment.
  • Candidates must possess leadership qualities necessary to effectively supervise a team of professional employees.  Some travel, both on site and off site, will be necessary, as there will be some engagement outside of normally scheduled work hours.
