Description of Work Unit
Business and Financial Services exists to maintain and improve the processes which protect the financial integrity of Colorado State University, to provide periodic financial information to various users, to support University financial system users, to monitor transaction flow to assure compliance with Federal, State, and University laws, regulation, and policies, to analyze and interpret financial data as part of the overall control of University fiscal goals and concerns, and to formulate financial statements and reports in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The purpose of the work unit is to support the technology needs, both in hardware and software, of Business and Financial Services including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Campus Services, Financial Reporting and Banking Services units. Additional units supported include Purchasing and Budget offices. This includes supporting existing commercial and internally developed solutions as well as providing support and application development for various administrative projects as needed. The unit also provides training to department and campus users on supporting systems purchased or developed by Financial Systems Services.
Position Summary
This position is part of a team of talented developers responsible for developing and maintaining a variety of custom in-house database and web-based applications. These applications facilitate the academic advancement and success of 30+ thousand students enrolled at Colorado State University. Applications are developed using C# in the ASP.NET framework.
The individual holding this position uses technology to solve business problems, improve existing business processes, and deliver dynamic web-based services to Colorado State University students, faculty, and staff. This individual communicates with end-users both within and outside the department to gather and document requirements. A variety of development tools are available to create a solution, test the code that has been developed, and deploy the tested code into the production environment.
Development tools utilized by this position include Visual Studio, C#, ASP.NET, PL/SQL Developer, SQL Server Management Studio, jQuery, Javascript, Subversion, and others.
This position is a full-time appointment, based on the CSU Fort Collins campus, with the potential for flexible work arrangements including hybrid office/remote work.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio including ASP.NET and C#.
  • Experience with Web development.
  • Experience with SQL generation.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; Business and Financial Services will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or other closely related field.
  • Experience with relational database design and programming.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming, design patterns, and n-tiered architecture.
  • Experience with Microsoft Reporting Services.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner.
  • Experience with financial data.
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Superior attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in an atmosphere of multiple projects and changing priorities.

  • Provide analysis and development support for existing applications by researching, updating, testing, debugging, and maintaining changes and enhancements to existing applications as needed so they comply with the ongoing business needs.

  • Create/maintain queries against Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL, verify and validate results with functional users as needed.

  • Coordinate with supervisor for the eventual deployment of the fully developed and approved solution.
