Job Summary:

We seek a Database Analyst Programmer - Intermediate for the Population Neuroscience Core within the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's & Neurodegenerative Diseases at the University of Texas Health San Antonio (UTHSA) (https://biggsinstitute.org/ ).  

We are looking for an exceptional candidate with an interest in clinical research to join a dynamic and collaborative team of clinicians, epidemiologists, and statisticians conducting state-of-the-art research on dementia.

The candidate will assist with the data management of the San Antonio Heart and Mind Study (SAHMS), an epidemiological cohort with over 40 years of data, and recently funded by the NIH/NIA to recruit participants in a new follow-up visit focused on brain health. The Database Analyst Programmer - Intermediate is expected to set up a data management system to facilitate research with SAHMS data. Other activities include creating a data capture system for new data collection, facilitating the integration of legacy data, performing data quality checks, and assisting with data mapping. They will be required to liaise with study investigators and will work closely with the study Principal Investigator Claudia Satizabal, PhD, co-Investigator Helen Hazuda, PhD, as well as other investigators including epidemiologists, statisticians, physicians, neuropsychologists, and other scientists who will use SAHMS data in research projects.

Job Duties:

1. They will provide technical assistance for data management, including within the Data Exchange and Acquisition System (IDEAS) environment to facilitate the integration of legacy data.

2. Create data capture systems for new data collection and perform data quality checks.

3.  They will create documentation and assist with data mapping and extraction of datasets as needed for statistical analysis.

4.  Will work closely with the program manager and study PI in updating and appropriately disseminating ‘standard operating procedure’ protocols, in implementing and maintaining quality management systems, and in meeting reporting requirements to UT Health San Antonio and NIH.

5.   Participate in the development of a strategic plan for the core that would include investment in technology and process enhancement to maximize quality and efficiency.

6.    Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education:

 Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field is required.

 

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience is required. This position requires drive, team spirit, generosity, superb interpersonal and management skills, a passion to make a difference as part of a cutting-edge research team, judgment, and excellent spoken and written communication skills. Candidates with prior experience in observational or clinical research is a plus.
