Job Overview

Administer, maintain, develop, and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the university's ERP databases. Implement data models and database designs, data access and table maintenance codes; resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues.


Essential Functions
  • Support multiple ERP databases of medium to high complexity with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity and accessibility of the data. Increased skill in multiple technical environments.
  • Support integration of changes in test, preproduction, and production environments, evaluating problems and determining required course of action.
  • Work with analysts to understand university needs.
  • Translate logical data models into physical database designs and develops physical databases and assists in establishment of database system flows.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise data documentation, metadata models and database requirements that are provided to system administrators.
  • Code, edit and install stored procedures and functions for accessing, maintaining, and populating databases. Recommends solutions to support data integrity efforts.
  • Monitor, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve application and database performance and calibrate Database Management Systems (DBMS) parameters ensuring optimal database performance and availability.
  • Maintain development, production and multiple testing environments.
  • Perform upgrades of databases, adding new structures or elements.
  • Plan and manage the migration of databases.
  • Install, configure and maintain the database management systems software.
  • Build scripts automating the daily operations of database management.
  • Monitor transactions between application systems and the database for the purpose of identifying and improving inefficiencies.
  • Implement database backup and recovery procedures.
  • Control privileges and permissions to database users and assure appropriate information security is applied in all tasks.
  • Provide production support/database access 24 hrs. X 7 days a week. Conducts level 2 support.
  • May coach team members.
  • Research and evaluate emerging database technologies.

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Mathematics.
  • Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience
  • Two (2) years of ERP database administration experience working with various database management systems.
  • Knowledge of ERP applications and the role databases play in a web application stack.
  • A broad level of understanding surrounding information systems and application and/or ERP standards.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
