Job Title: Data Specialist (Intermediate – Senior Level)

Job Summary:

This position involves the handling of data related to patient diagnostic testing under CAP and CLIAA regulations, as well as work under the FDA GxPs as involved in new drug development. The candidate will be part of a team doing esoteric and niche testing in complement and autoimmunity. The successful candidate will have an interest and aptitude for data, demonstrated ability to maintain and manipulate large data sets, experience with databases, will be detail-oriented, and have a strong interest in advancing human health. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently and creatively identify data management solutions.
  • Assist Team Leads, Supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist and train junior team members.
  • Formulate techniques for quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy, and legitimacy of data.
  • Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling and analysis with attention to all technical aspects of the data formatting and client data delivery requirements.
  • Interface with client data management teams including completion of data transfer agreements (DTA) and overseeing data cleaning and reconciliation of final data sets.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year data management and bioinformatic analyses experience.

Senior Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • Two (2) years data management and bioinformatic analyses experience.
  • One (1) year prior supervisory experience of a professional level position.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience analyzing data using high-performance computing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong to advanced knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in medical research.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.
  • Demonstrated fluency in one or more programming languages such as SAS (most preferred), R, or Python and willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary.
  • Familiarity with statistical analytical concepts and methods
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as:

Intermediate Level: $54,534 – $69,367

Senior Level: $58,955 - $74,991

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
