Job Summary

The Data Scientist will be assigned statistical analysis and predictive modeling projects. Including technical documentation related to new solutions and the ongoing maintenance of existing ones.

The Data Scientist will be assigned responsibilities for developing, maintaining, and enhancing statistical and machine learning and optimization algorithms to create tools that support strategic decision making for the University.

The Data Scientist will also be responsible for contributing to and upholding departmental standards for data extraction/transformation as well as methodologies and techniques of statistical analysis/modeling.

The individual(s) in this role work as a member of the Technology Solutions-EDA team as well as university staff in support of business intelligence to support and promote data usage within the University community.

Enterprise Data and Analytics or EDA provides a strong business intelligence environment that helps the University make informed and strategic decisions. This groups manages the Institutional Data Warehouse and provides data access and training.


Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$70,000 - $85,000 annual


Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Any combination totaling two years from the following categories:
    a. College course work in Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    - 60 semester hours or Associate's degree equals one year
    - 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's degree equals two years
    b. Progressively more responsible work experience in a data science related profession
  • At least three years (36 months) of experience with/in the following:
    a. Scientific and computing packages such as R, Python, or Stata gained through coursework or previous work experience
    b. SQL query language to extract data for use in predictive models
    c. Using Regression or related statistical models to create predictive analytics models

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in the higher education environment

  • Work Hours

    Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday; occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate

    The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions.
