Description of Work | The position will be responsible primarily for coordinating the International Student and Scholar Office data management process. They will manage the data management system (SUNAPSIS); be responsible for SEVIS Alerts and Reports, act as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and manage the record-keeping for all casework. In addition they will advise international students and scholars on their responsibilities. Minimum Required Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in a student services or related field plus one (1) year experience working with SEVIS and/or with a data management program in higher education; equivalent education/experience considered. Experience utilizing a database management system for international students and scholars (i.e. SUNAPSIS). Experience working with a diverse population. Must possess effective decision-making skills, exercise good judgment, accept responsibility, and perform duties in an atmosphere of team-like cooperation and which requires a high level of confidentiality. Demonstrated strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate complex information effectively. Demonstrated success in working and communicating effectively with individuals of diverse cultures and backgrounds. Must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident as required by federal regulations for Primary/Designated School Officials (PDSO/DSO) and Alternate/Responsible Officers (RO/ARO). |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree in a students services or related field or equivalent experience in international education. Experience in an international student and/or scholar services role. Experience managing a database management system for international students and scholars (such as SUNAPSIS) and experience with university specific software programs (PeopleSoft, Student Success Plan, SUNAPSIS). Knowledge of non-academic advising practices (cross-cultural, personal, counseling, immigration) to serve international students and scholars. Ability to read, understand, interpret and explain immigration laws and regulations. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail is necessary. Familiarity with U.S. immigration laws and regulations. Familiarity with UNL-specific software programs, including PeopleSoft (MyRed). Knowledge of the University’s policies and procedures especially in regards to academic policies, payroll, human resources and advising. |
