Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Division of information Technology Services (ITS) at UNCG has broad responsibilities in determining the strategic direction for information technology deployment and use throughout the campus.
Enterprise Infrastructure is responsible for managing the University’s technology infrastructure to support business operations, learning, and research. The infrastructure includes wired & wireless connectivity, systems, research computing, IT facilities, and data infrastructure as well as services required to operate the core infrastructure of the University.​
Position Summary
Plan, design, implement and support stable and secure IT systems, voice and data network infrastructure. ITS Enterprise Technology Infrastructure supports more than 20,000 students, faculty and staff by administering the campus enterprise server infrastructure, enterprise databases, local and wide area network infrastructure, campus fiber optic and copper cable plant, campus telecommunications closets, voice services infrastructure. All of the core technology services offered by the University rely on the successful design, development, implementation, growth, maintenance and monitoring of the campus systems, networks, and data infrastructure.
This position serves as the campus database infrastructure lead with responsibility for the design, implementation, security and administration of UNCG’s Oracle enterprise databases run in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical and strategic leadership with the goal of delivering high performance/high availability databases that meet campus enterprise computing needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Business Administration or related field or 10+ years of experience managing complex Oracle database systems, 3+ years utilizing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services to deliver database services, and 3+ years in a management role.
  • Strong working knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including cloud computing, database services, and datalake/lakehouse environments.
  • Proven experience leading and managing engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Proven business acumen.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies for improving efficiency and scaling operations.
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in IT Database or Data Science infrastructure, including 10+ years in a management role
  • Appropriate professional certification
  • Extensive experience with service solution design, documentation, and implementation
  • In-depth knowledge of security protocols and best practices
