HJF is seeking a Data Engineer Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Human Performance Wing (RH), within the Airman Systems Directorate (ASD), located at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in Dayton, Ohio. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to ASD. U.S. Citizenship is required. 

The Data Engineer Postdoctoral Fellow will mine, analyze, visualize, and operationalize data to support the Air Force’s critical medical mission. This position will support the design and implementation of research studies, clear communication of results, and the preparation and submission of reports, publications, and patents. The position requires computational proficiency, the ability to use platform technology, and the use of computational tools. The Postdoc will need to be proficient in data mining, data analysis, data visualization, statistics, modeling, and advanced data analytics.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development. (20%)
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products. (20%)
  • Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures. (20%)
  • Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments. (20%)
  • Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals. (20%)
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.  
  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

    • The ideal candidate for this position must be results driven, have the ability to work efficiently in a cross-disciplinary environment, and have strong critical thinking skills. Must have a strong affinity towards continuous learning and a willingness to tackle challenges where answers are currently unknown. Strong oral and written communication is a must.
    • Proficient in data mining, data analysis, data visualization, statistics, modeling (stats modeling, stochastic processes, etc.), and advanced data analytics (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, deep learning etc.).
    • Computational proficiency with at least one programming language (C/C++, Python, etc.), the ability to use platform technology (Docker, Amazon AWS, etc.), and the use of computational tools (e.g., Git).

    Minimum Education: Doctoral degree in Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or an advanced technical field is required.

    Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: A minimum of 0-5 years of experience is required.

    Work Environment: Office setting.

    Work Arrangement: This is a hybrid position with the ability to telework a few days per week. 

    Background/Security: U.S. citizenship required; eligible to obtain and maintain a Tier III Investigation/ Secret Clearance and Common Access Card (CAC).
