Overview:

Our Emerging Technologies & Computing Team (ETCT) is hiring a Data Engineer! Specializing in metadata, you'll work with sponsors and researchers to implement, curate, and maintain repositories in various research and technical environments. These user-centered repositories (in both metadata ingestion and creation) aid in the discoverability of local and global information resources. ETCT resides within the Research Computing Division of ORNL’s Information Technology Services Directorate.

 

This role entails researching, exploring, recommending, and implementing new metadata best practices to improve research data discoverability!

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead iterative, continuous development of new programs and tools for metadata management.
  • Analyze and evaluate metadata quality.
  • Build mappings for various metadata formats and metadata sources.
  • Collaborate in new metadata initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Information Technology, Computer Science, Library Science or a related field of study and 5-7 years of proven experience is required for consideration. An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience in the following areas:
    • FAIR/FARE data principles
    • Content management systems and collaboration tools
    • Data curation and cataloging
    • Python in a data rich environment
    • SDLC industry standards
    • Metadata schemas like DCAT and/or DataCite

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in Information Science, Information Technology, Computer Science, Library Science or a related field of study with 4-6 years’ proven experience OR a PhD in the same areas with up to 3 years of proven ability.
  • Experience with implementation and management of data and metadata repository platforms such as Invenio, OpenMetadata, DKAN, etc.
  • Experience with front-end web programming languages and frameworks.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.
