Job Summary

Would you like to influence and guide data combined with technology decisions and solutions to align to the strategic architecture visions of new commercialization efforts at U of U’s Pivot Center i.e. University of Utah Therapeutics Accelerator Hub (U2TAH)? In this role, you will build consensus with academic and scientific leaders across the expanse of the University’s therapeutic research groups, to help them promote and accelerate their research efforts into products to help humankind.

One aspect of the Principal Data Analyst / Architect’s responsibility is creation and maintenance of catalogs and performing analysis of the many research, clinical and genomic data sources. The Analyst/Architect will be responsible for gathering data from multiple sources and performing complex data analysis. Their work will enable the formation and projection of data into information insight and insight into opportunities to move from the lab to people that can most benefit.

This position reports to the Senior Managing Director of the Therapeutic Accelerator and will work collaboratively with other research and data teams, to understand our data and ensure that the functionality and de-livery is consistent and effective. This position is based in Salt Lake City, Utah.


• Analyze and catalog the multitudinous databases: EHR systems, genomic, diagnostic, image and other data sources across the various research and patient care areas.
• Build and maintain reports, analyses, models, and visualizations that provide insight into key drivers of the data sources and their potential business outcomes through advanced analytics + statistical techniques
• Identify opportunities for therapeutic transfer through analysis of underlying data
• Build dashboards and reports
• Collaborate with our cross-functional team on improving our tools, methods and techniques
• Contribute to our team and company data culture through peer collaboration, training, coaching and more
• Analyst/Architect will identify and then own projects based on expertise— meaning conception, planning, development, implementation, and delivery— with the support of whatever other data science and cross-team expertise is required.
• Platform Plays – e.g., Cloud-Native Providers – provide guidance for commercialization decisions to either “Adopt” or “Create” platforms and providing guidance during the implementation of these platforms
• Platform Evaluations – participating in vendor platform evaluations to influence the decisions towards the most optimal, mature platform options
• Platform Integration – providing guidance on best ways to integrate platforms
• Platform Hyper-connectivity – providing guidance to ensure hyper-connectivity within the platform ecosystem
• Capability Rationalization – guiding (and in some cases even surfacing) decisions to rationalize capabilities and even entire platforms
• Solution & Journey Architecture – guiding architecture decisions to leverage existing, optimal platform capabilities
• Application Development – identifying and guiding capabilities provided by applications to deliver highest value to patients and clinicians

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in area of specialty or equivalency and 6-8 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

• Ability to detect and debug anomalies in complex data processes
• Curiosity to learn new skills and apply them in novel ways to solve challenging problems
• Professional skill set to excel in an open, highly collaborative environment.
• A track record of outstanding past projects, publications, or presentations.
• Passion for solving problems and driving business impact & eager to learn and apply feed-back constructively
• Experience onboarding platforms
• 4 + years of experience manipulating and analyzing large data sets, monitoring and predicting trends and identifying opportunities through the interpretation of data.
• Python experience for data science problems (scikit learn, pandas, numpy, etc.) including experience with statistical modeling, machine learning, and analyzing large data sets
• Strong visualization and data storytelling skills and creating reports/dashboards
• Experience with complex SQL queries and Stored Procedures

Bonus Points:
• Experience with statistical modeling, machine learning, and analyzing large data sets
• Excellent time management and organizational skills and able to work independently with minimal oversight.
