Hiring Range: $3,956.33/mo. - $5,463.47/mo.
 
THIS IS A TEMPORARY (6 months), GRANT-FUNDED POSITION.
 
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:   Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Data Analyst II conducts research projects on genetic and genomics mechanisms of nicotine addiction using rats as models in the Department of Pharmacology, Addiction Science, and Toxicology at UTHSC. Analyzes the entire genome sequencing data of approximately 100 strains of rats, which will identify the single nucleotide variants, small insertions/deletions, and large structural variants, such as inversions, copy number variations, etc.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Analyzes genomic sequencing data of inbred rats for single nucleotide polymorphism, small insertions and deletions.
  • Analyzes genomic sequencing data of inbred rats for structural variants
  • Analyzes and identifies the single nucleotide variants and large structural variants, such as inversions, copy number variations.
  • Assists others in analyzing genomic and genetic data.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:   
    EDUCATION:   Master’s  Degree in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Data Science, or related field of study. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
     
    EXPERIENCE:  Two (2) years’ work experience with R programming language. Proficiency in R is required. (Research skills in Molecular Biology and statistics are preferred).
     
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES:

    • Basic skill and knowledge in handling rats and rat behavioral tracking system.
    • Knowledge and familiarity with SQLite database and Linux (Shell commands).
    • Knowledge of basic concepts in statistical data analysis.

     
    WORK SCHEDULE :   This position may be occasionally required to work evenings and weekends.
     
    An official transcript or documentation to verify education must be submitted in a sealed envelope to the Human Resources Department prior to first day of employment if selected for a position.
