Job Description

The Data Analyst is responsible to plan, direct, and coordinate a comprehensive system of specific use databases; manage, implement, and maintain automated records systems; act as resident expert for partner data organizations.

This is an entry level position and will involve seeking and collecting relevant data, as well as documenting the information to be processed. Job duties include gathering data, interpreting the statistics, writing reports, and designing charts and graphs.

Key Responsibilities

Liaison and coordination:

  • Provides data management between Department and collaborator organization resource programs, Department IT/data management programs or academic researchers to identify, collect, and integrate information into a comprehensive and relational database management system
  • Promotes databases to current and potential users
  • Coordinates development and testing among collaborators of databases and applications to compile and access data

Database management:

  • Develops, updates, and maintains data standards for databases
  • Develops procedures and formats for data processing and ensures quality control
  • Consults with users on current and future use of data and reporting systems
  • Analyzes existing data from various academic departments to determine and make recommendations for their use in the database
  • Interprets trends and results of collected data and makes necessary corrections
  • Monitors changing needs of users making recommendations and implementing changes
  • Develops data query and export processes to provide information to Department staff and partner organizations
  • Documents data handling and reporting issues to ensure consistency and validity of data between and within divisions

Information management:

  • Supervises processing of data into database
  • Supervises release of information in hard-copy and computer formats to various users
  • Perform Analysis to assess the quality and meaning of data
  • Prepare reports for management stating trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant dataWork with the database administrator and management team to identify process improvement opportunities and propose modifications

Administration:

  • Trains staff in proper procedure to collect, compile, manage and extract data
  • Participates in information system planning
  • Serves as liaison to central IT for technical support coordination
  • Trains staff in new application functionality and connectivity
  • Servers as the administrator with collaborating data systems

Minimum Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, OR a minimum of 6 years of related work experience

● At least one year experience evaluating and defining data management needs and recommending and implementing new solutions

● At least one year experience compiling data, conducting quality control, analyzing data and making interpretations

● Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relational database structure

● Ability to use standard office software and equipment

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience supervising student employees and directing work of other team members

● Familiarity with visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)

● Experience working with Raiser’s Edge CRM/RENXT and its reporting options

● Ability to provide technical support to users for standard software and hardware


Additional Information

Salary will be between $48,000 - $55,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
