The Financial Aid & Scholarships Information Technology (FAS IT) unit provides support for information systems, technical processes and administrative reporting that support and align with the mission of the Financial Aid & Scholarships department’s efforts to provide timely, quality and equitable distribution of Financial Aid and Scholarships to the UC Davis student community.

This position conducts day to day technical operations and executes essential student information systems (SIS) projects that have campus-wide impact, are mission critical, cross organizational boundaries, involve representatives of wide-ranging constituencies, and require applying significant experience and depth/breadth in system and business analysis. The primary role will be performing as a data analyst for the Banner student information system in addition to Federal, State, University and Private Agency information systems projects that have campus-wide and UC system impact.



Job Summary

Under the guidance of the IT Manager or Lead Analyst, this role provides technical operation support to all stakeholders within the Financial Aid & Scholarships department. Responsibilities include technical and functional analysis, planning, implementation, and maintenance of multiple systems that address the business needs of all Financial Aid stakeholders and the critical interdependence with outside Federal and State agencies as well as UC Office of the President and SIS software vendors. Supporting and conducting New Aid Year activities. Participates in Banner Financial Aid quarterly upgrades and patches to ensure accurate testing and configuration. Configures system tables/parameters, performs quality assurance, implements and/or executes data conversion, create reports, resolve system errors, and collaborate with colleagues in other departments. Keeps up to date on financial aid regulations. Collaborate and work with IET colleagues and outside vendors (Department of Education, Ellucian/Banner, National Student Loan Database Systems, Automic, Hyland/OnBase) and stakeholders at the university to resolve financial aid functional and technical issues.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Hire MUST be located in-state. (Out of state applicants will be considered but must relocate instate if hired). This position can be done primarily remote with the expectation that the employee must be available to come on site should management deem it necessary for emergencies, meetings, support activities, etc. No reimbursement of travel expenses, travel time not considered work hours.
  • Vacation is restricted during peak work periods.
  • Due to the mission-critical services provided by this department, this position may work hours other than M-F, 8am-5pm, especially in response to system problems. Work flexible schedule including occasional evenings, weekends and holidays to meet operational needs. Work arrangement will be made based on business-need for onsite schedule, remote, or hybrid.
  • Position is a mandatory reporter for known or suspected child abuse and requires that a statement acknowledging the requirement to report child abuse be signed.
  • Adhere to workplace safety practices, read information communicated about workplace safety, complete required safety training on time, and report any workplace safety issues promptly to their supervisor or the designated safety coordinator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Experience writing in Structured Query Language (SQL) for developing relational database scripts, reports, and queries.
  • Experience working in university-level Financial Aid systems including configuration, objects, processes, functions, and process flow design.
  • Experience working with federal, state and university regulations related to aid eligibility, delivery and reporting with an understanding of the underlying business and system processes.
  • Experience in systems analysis and business process engineering with complex overlapping and integrated processes.
  • Experience extrapolating a wide range of business processes and creating automated workflows to improve and enhance such processes.
  • Experience developing, executing, and managing business processes and functions with an automated workflow.
  • Experience testing reports and processes to specifications.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:   

  • Experience using Common Origination and Disbursement (COD), EdConnect and other software related to the delivery of federal student aid.
  • Experience using interpersonal, customer service and communication skills to effectively, professionally and collaboratively convey information to a diverse clientele.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Computer skills to work across a multi-platform environment with proficiency in using a variety of software packages including but not limited to databases, word-processing, e-mail, and web-browsers.
  • Skills to solve intermediate to complex programming, systems analysis, or procedural problems.
