Department Description

The mission of Information and Educational Technology (IET) is to create and support an information technology environment that enhances the ability of the UC Davis community to teach, do research and provide public service. In support of the University’s mission, IET will deliver an infrastructure of technological services appropriate to the requirements of the campus community.

The Financial Aid & Scholarships Information Technology (FAS IT) unit within Information and Educational Technology (IET) Academic Applications, provides support for information systems, technical processes, and administrative reporting that support and align with the mission of the Financial Aid & Scholarships department’s efforts to provide timely, quality, and equitable distribution of Financial Aid and Scholarships to the UC Davis student community.

The Data Analysts within FAS IT conduct day to day technical operations and execute essential student information systems (SIS) projects that have campus-wide impact, are mission critical, cross organizational boundaries, involve representatives of wide-ranging constituencies. This Data Analyst position primarily supports the Banner student information system specific to Financial Aid, in addition to Federal, State, University and Private Agency information systems projects that have campus-wide and UC system impact.

Job Summary

Under the guidance of the FAS IT Manager, this role provides technical operation support to all stakeholders within the Financial Aid & Scholarships department. Responsibilities include performing technical and functional analysis, and assisting with implementation and maintenance of multiple systems that address the business needs of all Financial Aid stakeholders and the critical interdependence with outside Federal and State agencies as well as UC Office of the President and Student Information System (SIS) software vendors. With guidance from stakeholders and FAS IT Manager, this position also participates in support of the technical configuration of the annual Aid Year Projects and in Banner Financial Aid quarterly upgrades and patches to ensure accurate testing and configuration. Configures system parameters, performs quality assurance, assists with implementation and/or execution of data conversion, creates reports, and resolves system errors of moderate scope and complexity. Keeps up to date on financial aid regulations. Collaborates and works with IET colleagues and outside vendors (Department of Education, Ellucian/Banner, National Student Loan Database Systems, Automic, Hyland/OnBase) and stakeholders at the university to resolve moderately complex financial aid functional and technical issues.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Hire MUST be located in-state. (Out of state applicants will be considered but must relocate instate if hired). This position can be done primarily remote with the expectation that the employee must be available to come on site should management deem it necessary for emergencies, meetings, support activities, etc. No reimbursement of travel expenses, travel time not considered work hours.
  • Vacation is restricted during peak work periods.
  • Due to the mission-critical services provided by this department, this position may work hours other than M-F, 8am-5pm, especially in response to system problems. Work flexible schedule including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet operational needs.
  • Adhere to workplace safety practices, read information communicated about workplace safety, complete required safety training on time, and report any workplace safety issues promptly to their supervisor or the designated safety coordinator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL) in development of reports and queries that employ the aspects of Data Manipulation Language (DML).
  • Experience in systems analysis and design as part of requirements gathering and defining specification for deliverables.
  • Experience using interpersonal, customer service and communication skills to convey information effectively, professionally, and collaboratively to a diverse client base.
  • Experience testing code, reports and processes to defined requirements or specifications.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Knowledge of data management systems, practices, and standards.
  • Analytical skills to work independently and as part of a team, establish priorities and manage time effectively to meet all task and project goals.
  • Problem-solving skills to define and analyze issues and assist in the development and implementation of solutions.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:   

  • Experience working in university-level Financial Aid systems including configuration, objects, processes, functions, and process flow design.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Knowledge of developing, executing, and managing business processes and functions with an automated workflow.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and university regulations related to aid eligibility, delivery and reporting with an understanding of the underlying business and system processes.
