Occupational Summary 

Responsible for collaborating with Campus leadership and administrative officers in support of sponsored project analysis, monitoring, and oversight. Conduct in-depth analysis of various information related to Duke University’s sponsored projects. Position will be accountable for the collection, management, and analysis of data to be used in programmatic decision making.  

Work Performed 

Monitoring and reporting

  • Identify best methods to collect, visualize and report various types of sponsored project and award data to summarize metrics related to grants, contracts, agreements, or other externally funded projects.  

  • Design and prepare data for monitoring of Campus unit sponsored project portfolios, including, financial status, compliance, performance, and risk.  

  • Prepare reports and design strategies to effectively communicate findings both to specific stakeholders, schools, as well as institution wide. 

  • Synthesize data analysis into clear, relevant, and visually appealing materials by developing graphs, reports, and presentations of results to support strategic and programmatic decisions.  

  • Monitor progress and performs trend analysis of agreed upon metrics (quantitative and qualitative) broken down by department/center/institute and prepares appropriate reports. 

  • Work with colleagues and other administrative officers in support of financial management, institutional research and/or institutional planning efforts in the form of analysis, reporting, data exploration, and interpretation. 

Data analysis and process improvement  

  • Perform complex statistical analyses and data extracts in accordance with the needs of the Provost’s Office, Campus school leadership, directors, and other senior administrators across the institution. 

  • Ensure high quality data is collected to be used in analysis and continually verify integrity of the data.  

  • Ensure that policies governing data management are met including security and privacy.  

  • Partner with the Office for Research and Innovation (OR&I) offices to assess, map, and monitor business unit activities.  

  • Assist management with data reports related to implementation of emerging business improvement processes, business intelligence tools and related systems. 

  • Compile data, develop rubrics, and develop/deliver ad hoc reports for stakeholders to identify gaps and progress related to compliance and financial initiatives. 

  • Collaborate in the development of analytics to evaluate outcomes and progress related to new initiatives or improvement plans implemented in sponsored research areas on campus. 

Dissemination 

  • Identify and prepare data content for meetings, presentations, and communications as needed by the Provost’s Office and OR&I. 

  • Intelligently and creatively present data in a way that can be easily and quickly grasped by external stakeholders.  

  • Participate in the dissemination and presentation of data to management and leadership, providing technical guidance and training related to access and interpretation of data as needed. 

  • Coordinate efforts with other key offices to create an accessible data dashboard that will allow departments, units, and schools to monitor performance and progress across a spectrum of quantitative and qualitative metrics relevant to sponsored project management. 


Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires knowledge and skills generally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree program in business, computer science, mathematics, statistics or social sciences.

Experience

Work requires knowledge of both statistical analysis and interpretation generally acquired through at least two years of relevant experience.
