University Enterprises Corporation at CSUSB ("UEC") supports the university's educational mission by providing quality services that complement the instructional program. The University depends upon UEC to provide services that cannot be supported with state funds. We’re responsible for business enterprises on campus including, but not limited to, dining, bookstore, convenience store, and vending services. We also serve as the grantee for federal, state, and local funding for research and sponsored projects.

Position Summary

Full-time (40 hours a week), temporary "non-exempt" benefited position (with the possibility of a one-year renewable appointment based on the availability of work, availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance).

Salary:  $4,333.33 – $5,416.67 per month

Location: San Bernardino

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM PT to 5:00 PM PT. The incumbent must be able to participate in remote or on-campus work depending on the directives from the CSUSB campus.

Typical Activities

Typical Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Create and maintain hands-on cybersecurity labs and lab environments while working within a small agile team.
  • Test and document hands-on cybersecurity labs and lab environments.
  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of software tooling to develop hands-on cybersecurity labs and lab environments.
  • Assist frontline support personnel in fielding support queries from various users regarding cybersecurity lab issues, including providing live troubleshooting and developing workarounds.
  • Learn additional tools, technologies, software, programming languages, and methodologies as needed to continue performing to duties of this position.
  • Mentor technical student assistants and junior developers with varying knowledge and skillsets.

Minimum Qualifications

Familiar: Used in a minor, trivial, or trial manner for a work, school, or personal project. Might require some on-the-job training and mentorship.

Knowledge: Has read about and theoretically understands the general value and use of a subject. Might require on-the-job training and mentorship.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience using Linux
  • One (1) year of experience in any programming/scripting language
  • Familiarity with Windows
  • Familiarity with core networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, IP Address, Subnet Mask, etc.)
  • Familiarity with common computer security concepts (e.g., defense-in-depth, attack surface, encryption, hashing, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively over online communications platforms (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams, Hipchat, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree (or above) in a related field or with college coursework in related subjects
  • Experience with the Python programming language
  • Experience with the Bash and/or Powershell scripting languages
  • Familiarity with systems monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Icinga, etc.)
  • Familiarity with common offensive security tool suites (e.g., Metasploit, Mitre Caldera, etc.)
  • Familiarity with the Git SCM
