Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. 
 
Gift Services is responsible for depositing, recording, receipting, and acknowledging gifts of various types, including cash, credit card transactions, bank drafts, payroll deductions, publicly traded and closely held stocks, gifts-in-kind, pledges, and matching gifts according to CASE guidelines and Internal Revenue Service regulations and requirements. 
 
The Customer Service Liaison-Revenue Specialist will be responsible for three key areas in Gift Services: 
 
One, this person will be the primary liaison to the Medical Foundation, including Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer 
Center and UNC Children’s. In this role, this position will carefully review revenue submitted by the Medical Foundation to ensure the Medical Foundation’s gift processor has handled the gift according to departmental, university and CASE standards and guidelines. This position will be expected to understand the business needs of the Medical Foundation; recognize top donors and apprise development officers of issues related to these donors; work with Medical Foundation accounting/revenue staff to handle revenue transactions and assist with marketing/communications, events and stewardship, particularly as issues arise in the view of revenue batches. This position will be expected to provide the utmost in customer service in the receiving, reviewing and processing of revenue including cash, checks, gifts-in-kind, and event registrations and will oversee any credit card or other transactions that may benefit the Medical Foundation or any of its departments or units. 
 
Two, this position will be responsible for overseeing and managing recurring gift transactions via bank draft and payroll deduction. This includes working with Payroll Services as well as an outside vendor to add, adjust and monitor monthly recurring gifts, reconcile the gift system with the regularly scheduled deposits, and work with Gift Services and campus development staff on gift or donor issues. This position must be highly proactive and responsive in the management of this program in order to maintain continued donor giving. The ability to work independently and manage time wisely is essential. 
 
Three, it is estimated that hundreds of thousands of dollars is left on the table by non-profits that do not proactively follow up with donors who give to their organization but do not utilize their company’s’ matching gift programs. This position will assist in building and managing Carolina’s proactive matching gift program in order to bring more matching gift dollars into the University. This position will work with the assistant director and the matching gift coordinator who, together, will coordinate an effort to notify donors that work for a company with a matching gift program and provide information that will aid the donor in obtaining the match. Additionally, this position will assist in processing matching gift claims that come in paper format to Carolina, researching the donor’s gift and verifying that information for the company. This may also entail providing the company with documentation of the donor’s gift and/or verification of the University’s tax-exempt status. Work will be done independently as well as with the team as appropriate. 
 
A thorough understanding of CASE reporting standards and Internal Revenue Service rules related to charitable and noncharitable contributions is required ensuring that revenue is processed, recorded and receipted properly.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Candidates for this position should be well organized, be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and be a team player. Additionally, candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, be able to work independently, and have proven customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience at a higher education institution and/or prior experience in a fundraising setting is preferred.
