The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Customer Service Associate I to serve as a member of the Primary Care and Population Health department. Job Summary: The Customer Service Associate I is responsible for handling patient calls for scheduling appointments and routing calls to the appropriate clinical staff. This position will also assist in the Front Desk, checking in patients and assisting with walk-ins.

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Required Experience:

  • Two years of related experience

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be skilled in the operations of a medical office.
  • Working knowledge of word processing software.
  • Basic computer and typing skills, keyboarding.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and organize effectively. Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.

Preferred Education:

  • Associate's Degree

Preferred Experience:

  • Two years' experience in general office or personnel operations including one year experience working within a medical office.
  • Prior EHR experience

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities
  • Fluent in Spanish.

Job Responsibilities:

Patient Phone Calls

  • Handle phone calls from patients who need to schedule appointments to include adding new patients, verifying demographic information and insurance.
  • Route calls to clinical staff and enter phone notes as appropriate.

Check-In Patients at Front Desk

  • Verify patient demographic information, collect co-pays and past-due balances, work patient waitlist, verify insurance, register patients for portal, check patients in/out.
  • Scan insurance cards and IDs.
  • Assist patients with kiosk.

Other Billing Projects

  • Qualifications Various projects that can include, but not limited to, correcting denied claims due to registration errors, contacting patients to upcoming visits, scheduling patient for wellness visits, inputting demographics for hospital billers.

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned
