Brandeis is seeking a Custodian to perform all the necessary work in connection with keeping campus facilities clean. This includes interior spaces such as classrooms, residence hall common areas, offices, conference rooms, laboratories, auditoriums, athletic facilities, restrooms, lounges, hallways, and stairwells. Keeps exterior entranceways and assigned building perimeters clear from trash, debris, and snow. Will clean chalk boards; sanitize restrooms; replenish supplies; empty trash receptacles and remove recycling; sweep, dry, and wet mop floors, stairs, and elevators; wash walls, windows, furniture, and fixtures; and perform other duties as assigned. May also dust, vacuum, assist with flood clean-up, and provide support for event set up/take down.  Responds to and cleans up after emergencies. Performs other duties as assigned.

Shift: Monday through Friday 3:30 pm to 12:00 am, with Saturday and Sunday off.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work. 

  • Ability to read and write in English at a level appropriate for the duties of the position in order to follow instructions, provide information, and read product labels. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety.

  • Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities and periodic stress from individuals and time deadlines.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift and move furniture, walk/stand for a majority of the shift, shovel snow and remove trash weighing 30 pounds.

  • Ability to organize responsibilities and tasks weekly in order to perform them efficiently and effectively.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency preferred.
