Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Custodial Worker, New Harmony.

Perform a full range of custodial duties related to the cleaning and maintenance of buildings and facilities; perform related work as required.

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • General cleaning and housekeeping duties in buildings, restrooms, lobbies, stairways, offices, rental units, in Historic New Harmony.
  • Restock supplies custodial supplies as needed.
  • Set up or move furniture and equipment in support of special activities, meetings, or exhibits.
  • Perform general cleaning of windows, walls, doors, stairs, desks, chairs, tables, blackboards, and related furniture and fixtures.
  • Clean, sweep, vacuum, extract, mop, strip, wax, polish, buff, and maintain floors, steps, entrances, and halls.
  • Perform tasks to help maintain landscaped and turfed areas, roads, walkways and parking lots, playing fields and recreational areas.
  • Perform housekeeping services (making beds, laundry service, etc.) for the New Harmony Guest House.
  • Dispose of trash, biohazards, and recyclables properly.
  • Replace light bulbs as needed.
  • Perform tasks to help maintain, renovate, rehabilitate structural components to include roofs, doors, windows, framing, siding, fencing, and structural masonry.
  • Work safely with equipment, vehicles, cleaning fluids, chemicals, and other cleaning agents.
  • Report safety hazards and identify and report maintenance needs in assigned building and facilities.
  • Report observed suspicious or unusual situations or activities promptly to designated authorities.
  • Assist in cleaning building system components as they are maintained by others.
  • Assist in snow removal from building entrances and walkways.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Valid driver license is needed to operate USI vehicles and/or carts.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to read and write.
  • Must possess basic math skills.
  • Must possess the ability to work independently and be self-motivated to complete tasks within allotted timeframe.
  • Working knowledge of microcomputers, internet, and electronic mail systems required.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals required.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Previous work experience demonstrating a familiarity with and aptitude for housekeeping duties.
  • Experience in industrial or commercial cleaning.
