Job Description:

The University of Florida Student Health Care Center (SHCC), which is in the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine (CHFM), is seeking full-time Custodians to join our Environmental Services Team. As a Custodian, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the cleanliness and hygiene of various areas within the new SHCC facility on campus, supporting our mission to provide excellent healthcare services to the UF Student Body population.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Follow proper cleaning and sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean and safe healthcare environment.
  • Floor Maintenance: Sweep, mop, strip, and wax floors; vacuum carpets; clean walls, windows, furniture, and equipment in staff offices and patient health care areas.
  • Bathroom Maintenance: Keep bathroom facilities in a clean and sanitary condition with adequate supplies, using appropriate germicidal material in inpatient areas.
  • Exterior Maintenance: Sweep the facility's sidewalks, steps, and entryways.

Additional Duties:

  • Storeroom Management: Keep the storeroom clean and orderly, lift heavy boxes, and stock shelves on an as-needed basis.
  • Furniture and Equipment Handling: Assemble and move furniture and equipment as directed; assist with special projects.
  • Waste Disposal: Dispose of waste material following OSHA Guidelines and State regulations; assist in the proper disposal of excess supplies, materials, and furniture.
  • Maintenance Tasks: Replace light bulbs, make simple repairs to and maintain janitorial equipment, report equipment requiring additional repairs.
  • Vehicle Operation: Serve as a standby driver and drive state vehicles as needed.

Schedule: Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Hours and days will vary due to the Student Health Care Center's needs (rotating weekend and evening shifts on an as-needed basis).

Expected Salary:

Minimum $15.00/hr. and is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Completion of ninth (9th) grade
  • Appropriate early education coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience or educational background.
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
  • Proficient in working with cleaning chemicals, demonstrating knowledge of proper usage and safety precautions.
  • Physical capability to lift and handle medium to heavy-weighted items.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preferred prior experience in custodial or janitorial roles.
  • Familiarity with OSHA Guidelines and State regulations pertaining to sanitation and waste disposal.
  • Ability to work independently with established guidelines and daily supervision, receiving verbal directions and instructions.
