Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a Custodial Supervisor! The Supervisor will oversee the hourly student custodians in the day-to-day UVU Dining Services custodial operation and train the custodial personnel in proper floor care, cleaning, and safety procedures.  Also, indirectly supervise caterers during evening events to ensure that the events run smoothly and supervise the caterers with their clean-up responsibilities as well.
The set schedule will be from 12PM - 6 PM Monday - Friday. 


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train custodial staff on proper cleaning techniques, safety issues and use of all custodial equipment. Enforcing rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Maintain inventory and supervise the usage of supplies, chemicals, and equipment. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Assists in hiring qualified employees by participating in the interview process and making recommendations regarding the employment of applicants. Approve electronic time sheets, assumes the duties of absence student custodians in their assigned area.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Provides work direction to evening catering student employees. Monitor evening catering events to ensure they function smoothly in a highly professional manor.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a related field or a combination of education and/or experience related to the summary of duties totaling 4 years.
Licenses or Certifications:    
Food Handler's Permit is required within the first 30 days of employment.


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
  • Knowledge of supervision and training.
  • Knowledge of custodial sanitation and sterilization methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of the proper and safe use and storage of cleaning compounds.
  • Knowledge of the proper and safe use of ladders.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting and moving
  • techniques.
  • Skills in interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Ability to train and provide work direction to others.
  • Ability to use cleaning materials, equipment and methods according to pre-determined
  • standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively regarding expectations, training, and discipline.
  • Ability to analyze diverse situations and use sound reasoning skills to apply an appropriate solution in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to inventory janitorial supplies.
  • Ability to teach procedures to accomplish assignments more efficiently.
  • Ability to walk, bend, lift, push and stand for extended periods of time.
