Be at the forefront of impacting nutritional education programs in South Dakota! Join the South Dakota State University (SDSU) Food and Families Program team and play a vital role in leading curriculum development and implementation for our education programs funded through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program (SNAP-Ed) and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). We are seeking a passionate individual to lead the selection, development, implementation, and evaluation of educational curriculum used statewide, ensuring adherence to federal guidelines. This position can be located in one of the four regional centers located in Aberdeen, Watertown, Pierre or Mitchell and is a 12 month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
As the outreach arm of our state’s land grant, South Dakota State University, SDSU Extension is able to provide farmers, ranchers, agri-business people, communities, families and youth with the research-based information they need to succeed. SDSU Extension meets the changing needs of South Dakotans with progressive outreach services, ranging from one-on-one interaction and forums to 24/7 online access through our website, extension.sdstate.edu. SDSU Extension organizes program outreach across 4 program areas: Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family, Food and Wellness, Community Vitality and 4-H Youth Development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with our education programs funded through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education Program (SNAP-Ed) and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) programming to lead curriculum selection, development, implementation, and evaluation of all educational curriculum used statewide in compliance with federal guidelines. Works with paraprofessional staff to provide training, mentoring, and in-service education. This position will work closely with the SNAP-Ed and EFNEP Program Managers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s in Nutrition & Dietetics, Public Health, Elementary Education, Adult Education or other closely related field by date of application;
  • At least 3 years of experience working within one of the above-mentioned disciplines;
  • Ability to work within a team environment;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills;
  • Experience developing curriculum and evaluations using evidence-based practice;
  • Professional experience in educational programming with limited-resource audiences;
  • Experience leading and managing programs and/or teams;
  • Experience in developing and delivering virtual programming or education; and
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s in Nutrition & Dietetics, Public Health, Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education Adult Education or other closely related field;
  • Experience working with community-based programs or federal and/or state-funded programs;
  • Experience working with Extension programming;
  • Experience assessing existing curriculum and instruction materials for appropriateness of use with limited resource and culturally diverse audiences;
  • Experience with SNAP Ed or EFNEP programming; and
  • Experience developing standards and rubric to evaluate evidence-based programming.
