This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at La Jolla and remote.

The division of Medical Education within the UC San Diego School of Medicine consists of the following units: Undergraduate Medical Education, Admissions & Student Affairs, Diversity and Community Partnerships, Graduate Medical Education, Continuing Medical Education & Faculty Development, Simulation Education, Physician Assistant Education, Anatomical Services, Business Affairs and Educational Technology. The division supports the education, training and co-curricular activities of approximately 560 medical students, 90 physician assistant students, 1000 residents and fellows as well as the faculty, physician and healthcare providers at UCSD’s School of Medicine, its' Medical Centers, and affiliates.

Serve as a Curriculum Coordinator in UC San Diego School of Medicine (SOM). This position works in the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education and reports to the Preclinical Curriculum Supervisor. As part of the curriculum support team, this position supports the School of Medicine's core courses.

In consultation with department management, uses professional concepts in drafting department schedules for courses, taking into consideration faculty leaves, preferences, course loads, classroom availability, and enrollment figures. Schedules may be reviewed to ensure alignment with student needs for degree progression. Independently secures classrooms for courses, taking into account the requirements and restrictions of School of Medicine facilities, enrollment data, and equipment and training needs.

This position is responsible for organizing and ordering course materials, coordinating AV/IT support for classrooms and instructors, generating spreadsheets, and managing the posting and updating of course material on the online learning system. Additionally, the Coordinator is tasked with proctoring exams and review sessions.

The incumbent regularly communicates to stakeholders and disseminates guidelines and procedures to course directors, students, facilitators, visitors, and department leadership. The position will track applicable course facilitator recruitment and hours to uphold compliance with university and departmental guidelines.

The Curriculum Coordinator will assist with special projects, events, and serve as back-up for colleagues in the unit, as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Six years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.

  • Interpersonal skills to work with department senior management, faculty, and students.

  • Ability in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends.

  • Ability to find solutions to conflicting situations.

  • Excellent communication skills to communicate clearly, effectively and tactfully to all levels of clients, academic, administrative and staff personnel within the university.

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously requiring experience with prioritizing tasks due to challenges such as shifting priorities, fluctuating workloads, and deadline pressures. Time management skills to include ability to monitor tasks and projects, making resourceful and creative decisions to ensure timely delivery.

  • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions. Ability to work effectively, efficiently and apply attention to detail while working on multiple tasks at the same time. Ability to appropriately apply policies and procedures.

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently and manage heavy workload to meet shifting deadlines and priorities.

  • Excellent record keeping skills, including ability to design and maintain extensive database information. Skill in developing, implementing, and maintaining efficient record keeping and filing systems for retrieval by self and others.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.

  • Ability to counsel students and faculty on a variety of problems with tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity.
  • Very rarely, overtime and evenings may be required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $52,100 - $87,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $24.95 - $42.10

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
