Founded in 1979, the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) is a center for innovation dedicated to advancing the field of gifted education through research on testing, programs, and other supports for advanced learners. On the premise that advanced learners come from every community and every demographic, we aim to understand and inform how these students need to be nurtured to achieve their full potential as learners and global citizens. CTY also runs in-person and online academic programs for bright learners in order to cultivate a community of advanced learners and connect students in and outside the classroom.

We are seeking a CTY  Program Manager who will work in coordination with the CTY Director of Curriculum and will be responsible for the design and implementation of professional learning for CTY educators and extended to external audiences as appropriate. The Program Manager will support the strategic organizational goal of training CTY Expert Educators who are well-versed in best practices in gifted education, the CTY curricular approach, and the action research associated with the approach. As appropriate, the Program Manager will extend the CTY training model to professional learning experiences for schools, districts, and other educational entities. The person in this role will be part of the CTY Curriculum Team, which collaborates with the Online, In-Person, and Integrated Programs divisions of the Academic Programs Team.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Assessment of Needs and Development of Training and Professional Learning Sessions

  • Assess staff needs to develop professional learning sessions that incorporate evidence and research-based principles for working with advanced learners.
  • Develop standards-based training and professional learning sessions that incorporate adult learning principles.
  • Ensure design consistency and accessibility in the development of synchronous and asynchronous assets for professional learning sessions.
  • Review data, conduct analysis, and advise on best practices to build a CTY professional learning framework.

Implementation, and Evaluation of Training and Professional Learning Sessions

  • Manage implementation of training in collaboration with program staff, to include the training program for online instructors and the annual training of on-site leadership staff.
  • Implement and evaluate professional learning experiences for CTY educators in synchronous (in-person and virtual) or asynchronous modalities, working in collaboration with program staff.
  • Implement and evaluate train-the-trainer experiences for CTY program and instructional leaders.
  • Work with subject matter experts across CTY to develop training content; collaborate with academic program teams to keep training materials up to date.
  • Develop and implement evaluations of training and professional learning sessions.

Collaborative and Other Activities

  • Promote a culture of inclusion by demonstrating strong emotional intelligence and multicultural competency.
  • Facilitate systematic development and review of program standards to ensure alignment with CTY mission to include DEI goals.
  • Promote awareness of and appropriate utilization of educational technologies.
  • Collaborate with research team to articulate research questions and data collection plans.

Additional Information

  • This is a hybrid position.
  • Ideal candidates will be willing/able to work evenings and weekends on an occasional basis to support professional learning initiatives.
  • Applicant must be authorized to work in the United States and must either live in the US or another area in which JHU has a business entity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Four years experience teaching college or pre-college; residential life; professional camping; or other relevant academic administrative functions.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Experience developing synchronous or asynchronous assets for virtual learning sessions.
  • Experience leading professional learning sessions for educators.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in gifted education or related field.
  • Experience in instructional design.
  • Experience managing up and across organizations.

Starting Salary Range: Min $55,200 - Max $96,600 Annually ($75,900 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
