Job Summary:

The Computer Sciences (CS) department is seeking to strengthen connections with the local K-12 community. This position will coordinate and instruct CS402 Introducing Computer Sciences to K-12 Students course, offered in both Fall and Spring terms. Our CS402 course instructor maintains and builds relationships with K-12 partner sites and instructs a weekly session to prepare CS402 enrolled students with the tools and mindsets to design and lead youth activities. In addition to this instructional role, this position will work with department faculty and staff to provide innovative learning experiences for K-12 communities.
Instruction of CS402
-Arrange for partnership sites.
-Prepare and present lectures once a week.
-Prepare, administer, and organize the grading of homework and projects.
-Hold office hours.
Outreach development
-Coordinate with computing organizations and local resources to promote youth from underrepresented computer populations' introduction and involvement in computing activities.
-Arrange for partnership sites and campus visits
-Coordinate with UW-Madison Office of Youth Protection to ensure compliance with campus and state guidelines.
-Collaborate with department faculty to host activities and/or increase youth exposure to Computer Sciences research.


Responsibilities:
Assists with the design and execution of administrative functions associated with academic instruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessment tools and resources to support quality student learning. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
  • 30% Directs and executes the development of instructional design for academic classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction in accordance with identified strategies and leadership goals
  • 5% Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
  • 10% Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy
  • 25% Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • 10% Supervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
  • 20% Develops summer youth outreach and programming activities

Education:

Required
Master's Degree in Computer Sciences or other STEM related area preferred.


Qualifications:

1. Five or more years of prior instructional experience preferred.
2. Prior experience supporting outreach programming preferred.
3. Excellent communication skills with demonstrated commitment to and experience working in collaboration with students, faculty, and staff of diverse ethnicities, cultures, social and economic backgrounds preferred.


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 56% - 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $80,000 ACADEMIC (9 months)
