Responsibilities for this role include 95% clinical practice assignment which includes functioning as an Advanced Practice Provider within the Critical Care Complex. The incumbent will act as a change agent for patients by incorporating the role of clinical expert, role model, consultant, educator, practitioner, researcher, and nurse leader; provide clinical expertise to patients and families by providing direct and indirect patient care; collaborate with the healthcare team in assessing, designing, implementing, and evaluating population-based programs of patient care to enhance high quality and cost-effective patient outcomes.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in the assigned division according to approved protocol and acceptable standards.

  • Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to written, approved protocols developed with and under the supervision of the Collaborating Physician. Participates in the design and revision of protocols.

  • Collaborates with Medical Physician and ancillary personnel as appropriate to promote quality care for patients. Makes referrals as appropriate.

  • Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors related to patient care.

  • Develops strong partnership with patients, family members, fellow physicians/nurses and support staff. Focuses on high patient and family satisfaction and retention.

In addition, 5% educational responsibilities in the College of Nursing will be determined in collaboration with Department Chair and Director of Advanced Practice.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Earned Master's degree or higher in a nursing specialty from an accredited university required.

  • Current DEA certification and must be certified in Basic Life Support.

  • Unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse (RN) and advanced practice nurse (APN) in Tennessee or eligibility to obtain licensure in Tennessee required.

  • Current certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Acute Care.

  • Academic rank is based upon academic credentials.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Three years of clinical practice experience at the RN level.

  • Experience in the role of an APRN preferred.
