The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Public Safety has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Crime Prevention Specialist.
Core Job Summary:
The Crime Prevention Specialist (H) develops, implements, and manages comprehensive crime prevention and safety programs across multiple sites. This role serves as the principal investigator for security-related incidents, ensuring thorough follow-up and resolution of security breaches. The Specialist collaborates with campus departments and external law enforcement agencies to enhance safety, reduce risk, and promote a secure environment. This position also supports compliance with federal and state reporting requirements and provides training and outreach to the organization’s community.
Core Responsibilities:
Develops and implements crime prevention programs tailored to the needs of the organization and surrounding community.
Conducts safety audits and environmental assessments to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities.
Analyzes crime data and trends to inform prevention strategies and resource allocation.
Coordinates with local law enforcement and emergency services to enhance collaborative safety efforts.
Delivers safety presentations, workshops, and training sessions to employees, students, or community members.
Promotes awareness campaigns on topics such as theft prevention, personal safety, and emergency preparedness.
Serves as a liaison between the organization and community groups to foster trust and cooperation.
Assists in the development and dissemination of crime alerts, safety bulletins, and educational materials.
Supports the implementation of security technologies, such as surveillance systems and access control.
Participates in emergency response planning and drills.
Maintains accurate records of crime prevention activities and prepares reports for leadership.
Provides guidance on crime prevention, best practices and policy development.
Responds to inquiries and concerns related to safety and security from staff, students, or the public.
Stays current on crime prevention trends, legislation, and emerging threats.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Core Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
